-mails inadvertently exposed the affair between general petraeus and paula broadwell. meantime a team of fbi agents searched broadwell's home in charlotte, north carolina, overnight, and spent nearly five hours there wrapping up just after 1:00 in the morning. "wall street journal" is reporting that the fbi agent who launched the petraeus investigation himself is under investigation. in part because he sent shirtless pictures of himself to jill kelley. jill kelley, the woman who kicked off all of this investigation, by complaining about the e-mails that she was getting from the petraeus mistress. so the agent, who knew kelley, allegedly sent those pictures before any investigation began, but as you can see, the story is getting much more complicated. we've got team coverage of the breaking news this morning. chris lawrence is at the pentagon. chris, i don't even know where to begin because there's so much to talk about. let's start with general allen. what's the implications of this -- of him being brought in to petraeus scandal and what has he said about it? >> so far, from what we've heard from d
with the case. >> and there's more. a team of fbi agents searching paula broadwell's home yesterday. eight to ten agents brought cardboard boxes and searched both levels of the house. the fbi confirmed agents were there but wouldn't say what they were looking for. >> obviously, a lot going on here. we have two reports. chris lawrence of the pentagon and brianna keeler in our washington bureau. let's start with chris. chris, we're talking about two high-level government officials in a scandal, general allen sent to become the supreme ally commander for nato. first off, what's the latest on the investigation? you are hearing anything? what is going to happen to general allen? >> reporter: yeah, right now what i'm hearing is that general allen is here in washington wondering exactly the same thing. he was just 48 hours away from going before that senate confirmation hearing to take over nato. now that has been postponed. he is here and people are wondering what's going to happen to him next. from what we've been able to determine from sources at the pentagon, basically they are looking at bet

an affair with his biographer paula broadwell that affair surfaced after the fbi started investigating paula broadwell for allegedly sending threatening emails to another woman. that woman's name is jill kelli. she a friend of david petraeus family. a wealthy, married socialite with lots of ties to military bigs in tamp parks home of central command. jill kelley's family is lebanese american. they immigrated from lebanon during the 1970s. during the fbi's broadwell investigation, agents uncovered 20 to 30,000 pages of documents. mostly emails they tell us between jill kelley and general john allen. is he also married. he is the man who took over for general petraeus as our commander in afghanistan. a senior defense official describes those emails between general allen and jill kelley as flirtatious in nature. the shear volume of emails means they were potentially exchanging an average of 41 pages of emails each day every day for years. while general allen was running our longest war. as for general allen, he has denied he and jill kelley were having an fair at all. adultery is a crime in the

pentagon correspondent barbara starr. she's getting new information on paula broadwell. what are you learning, barbara? >> wolf, some really stunning new information. cnn has learned from two u.s. officials that paula broadwell's security clearance has been suspended. she is a serving reservist, if you will, with the u.s. army, a military intelligence analyst. as such, she would at least have a secret level security clearance. we are now told that security clearance suspended pending the outcome of several investigations. we went to the army to ask them for an official response. they will not say anything except the following. and let me read it to you. "appropriate actions with regard to this officer's clearance and access have been taken." the statement goes onto say "the army has been cooperating with federal law enforcement authorities in this matter. and those actions are ongoing." wolf, you will recall a couple of days ago the fbi went to broadwell's home. we all saw the video of fbi agents taking away boxes of material, computers. the discussion centering around what kind of c
